View of Waikiki from Punchbowl Cemetery
Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery, Honolulu, Oahu [ Map ]
Taken from the lookout at one of the highest points of Oahu's punchbowl crater, this photo shows the view of Diamond Head in the distance past the high-rises of Waikiki. Oahu's main city is Honolulu, which stretches off to the right, but its popularity as a tourist destination for hotels, nightlife, and public beaches makes Waikiki a substantial city of its own
Here's a good compilation of good and bad sentiments about the island from Hawaiian "expatriates"

Giant Red Flower
Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden, Kaneohe, Oahu [ Map ]
I found these bright, almost 8-inch diameter flowers growing from a tree during a hike through the Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens, which contain species from tropical regions all over the world. Unfortunately I am not an expert in botany and have no idea what kind of flower it is.

The Manoa Falls trail, at the innermost part of Manoa Valley, is a popular tourist hike that ends at this waterfall.

Sunset At Barber's Point
Barber's Point Beach Park, Kapolei, Oahu [ Map ]
The southwestern most tip of Oahu, Barber's Point Beach remains peaceful despite the industrial park that now surrounds it. It is home to the Barber's Point lighthouse, as well as the occasional napping sea lion - one of which I found while taking this picture. He's the closest lump to the camera, just underneath the base of the lighthouse.

Central Road At Punchbowl Cemetery
North Hall Drive, Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery, Honolulu, Oahu [ Map ]
Once an active volcano, this now-extinct crater has been given a new purpose as the final resting place for over 33,000 veterans. A perfectly spaced line of monkeypod trees borders each side of the central park, leading inward from the memorial's entrance located in the center of the picture.
